Metropolitan Tea Company - Organic Turmeric Root
About this Botanical:
Turmeric emerged as a key component of Ayurvedic medicine around 500 BCE. It was said, at the time, that inhaling the fumes of burning turmeric could alleviate congestion, while a tea or juice made with the spice could heal wounds, bruises and other skin conditions like chicken pox or shingles. If you get the sense that turmeric was viewed as something of an Ayurvedic cure-all, you'd be right.
In1949, scientific research emerged that appeared to prove what Ayurvedic practitioners had believed for thousands of years. That year, researchers published a paper in the magazine Nature, outlining findings that showed that turmeric possessed an anti-bacterial component, curcumin, responsible for a wide range of potential health benefits.
Since then, this wonder root has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
